The garage door opener switched power source is an open fuse position on the fuse panel. See the FUSES section of the service manual and the correct wiring diagram in the service manual appendix. To route the transmitter wires through the grommet, push a hooked piece of wire through the grommet from the inside of the headlamp housing.

Apply a light coat of liquid soap, window cleaner or all-purpose lubricant to pull the wires back through the grommet with the hooked wire. In some applications, the transmitter wires do not fit through the headlight housing grommet. In that case, splice the wires outside the headlamp housing. For later Softail models Route the white wire up the backbone of the frame, entering near the front of the seat and exiting through the grommet on the left side of the frame near the steer head.

For later Softail models , the headlamp circuit wire in the vehicle harness is blue with a white tracer, rather than solid white as described in the following steps. After the receiver and transmitter are installed, program the receiver to receive the transmitter frequency. This process requires two people, depending upon how far apart the receiver and transmitter are during programming.

But with a belt-drive system, you get a smoother, quieter, and more durable operation. Many homeowners find that the extra expense is worth it, provided that the belt-drive system is able to lift the door.

If you are installing a different brand door, or even a different style within a given brand, the old track may not fit with the new door. Pros tend to price these per project, which includes labor, the door, tracks and any hardware. Type of installation: It can take about three to four hours to replace a door of the same type and size for a door of roughly 16 feet.

If the new door is compatible with the structure and available space, and your existing wiring and brackets are in good condition, installation is simpler than it otherwise would be.

Installation typically includes removing the old door, installing the new door and tracks, connecting to the existing opener, and a 1-year labor warranty. The risk to your garage door, your safety, and your belongings are not worth it. Typically it takes us about two hours to install a new garage door.

While off-the-shelf garage door openers are usually well-calibrated, problems with new devices can come about due to over coiled or under coiled springs. If, as it turns out, your garage door is poorly adjusted, then forget about trying to install garage door opener as a DIY project and visit a Garage Door professional who can do it for you.

Due to the large quantity of kinetic energy stored in torsion springs, adjusting the spring system yourself could be a hazardous undertaking, potentially causing accidents or injury.

Once you have successfully installed your overhead door opener system, make sure that check out the reverse system several times. Put a block of wood or a brick underneath the door. Now, activate the electric garage door opener system to close the door. As soon as the obstruction is sensed the door should immediately halt and then reverse back up.
